Living in Canggu: Bali's San Diego

These Were Our Tenth and Eleventh Weeks Traveling: Loving the beaches and sunsets of Canggu, Bali
Why combine these two weeks? Because we basically found San Diego in Bali (known as Canggu) and straight up chilled!!!

Plus, got to take a Crossfit class with Dave Driskell—one of the folks whose story helped inspire Tyler to leave his job and move to Bali in the first place

Megan took the neighbor’s puppy to the vet. It had a paw that was recently broken and healed wrong, so the sweet little thing had to learn how to be a tripod—and she was having a tough time with it. Her brothers and sisters were much bigger than she was because of the accident, so we decided to give her a fresh start.
Megan got the pup all her vital shots and ended up hand feeding her nutrients (think of a dog Power Bar) until she got back to healthy. Meg unofficially named her "Little Lady Limp", but we don't think the dog's owners will keep it ;)

And to celebrate healthy puppies...why not another epic sunset!!!

We ended up eating at a place called Bakso Rudi (bakso means meatball) 5 nights in a row. This is a new record for us, by the way, but it was THAT GOOD (plus cheap—and Tyler loves cheap.)
These two soups cost us less than $2, but we figured we could sell it by the bowl in Portland for more than $12 EEEEASY!

We did get some work done, though…we motorbiked all the way to Bali’s busiest city, Denpasar, to pick up a bunch of handmade blankets. We then scooted them back like so. 2 hours round trip, super stressful and hot, but totally worth it now!

These were our last few days in Bali, and Megan pointed out that our stay really went in stages—and it all sorta came down to our choices of food.
When we first got here, we wanted NOTHING to do with Western food of any sort. If we knew all of the ingredients, we wanted none of it!!!
After we got food poisoning twice, all we wanted were comforts from home (we’re talking nothing but pizza and pie.)

Towards the end, it became a total grey area. We went back and forth between enjoying a few Western frills and embracing the local street meat.

Tomorrow, we’re headed to Cambodia for about 10-ish days, so until then…here’s the sunset we got on Indonesia's Independence Day—with a giant kite bonus!

These last two weeks were a little bittersweet...
We love Bali, but are kinda happy to be moving on. It is, after all, a tiny island that transformed its traditional culture to become more adept at handling tourists. And while that comes with some positives (internet and amenities) and some negatives (slow internet and food poisoning), Bali was a great home for us for these past 3 months.
If you've never been to SE Asia, we recommend you check out Bali first to get yourself acquainted with Asian culture—because we promise you, it only gets quicker and more crowded from here ;)
