Snorkeling and Fun in Amed, Bali

The Weekly Traveler is Megan and Tyler's recap of highlights and memorable moments after a full week of traveling around our new home.

This Was Our Fifth Week In Bali

After a month, we finally made a move from land-locked Ubud to water-plenty Amed

Megan said this place reminds her of a sleepy Florida vacation town, so we chilled hard

But for real…this place is basically boat city. There were boats like these as far as the eye could see all along the shore

So we got two local fishermen to take us out on their boat for some sunset fishing

For bait, they just chopped up some mackerel on one of their oars (meaning fish are basically cannibals)-

And wouldn’t you know it…no poles, no problem! They just used line wrapped around sliced bamboo trunks

No fish caught, but we got to see plenty of this

The rest of the week was basically spent underwater

Saw a Japanese shipwreck just off the shore

Found a ton of places that look straight out of The Little Mermaid

And ran into a whole bunch of nice fishies

Week 5 gave us a fresh look at a Bali we thought we knew. When you come to a slow-moving village, the locals still think tourists are awesome, and all they want is to sit around and shoot the breeze with you instead of sell you stuff.
