Mario & Family

While Mario is living in Bali, his family is in Borneo, where the tradition of weaving rattan is still a rich part of the tribal culture. Rattan is a versatile renewable resource that can be used to make hats, baskets, area rugs, etc. Mario brings his community's rattan baskets to Bali where he will add features such as drawstrings, leather straps and lining to make them beautiful, wearable products. He is helping to keep the tradition of weaving alive in Borneo and providing tribal women with jobs to support their families.
