This purse is made from rattan that is woven by hand. The strap, trim, base and drawstring are made from high quality leather. The inside of the bag is lined with traditional Balinese fabric. The inside includes one zippered pocket. The versatility of this bag allows it to be worn as a cross body, backpack or a shoulder bag.

Borneo is an island divided among three countries Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. It contains one of the oldest rainforests in the world and is one the last remaining natural habitats for the orangutan. The population in Borneo mainly consists of indigenous groups. The weaving of rattan is a cultural tradition in Borneo that has been passed down for centuries. Women typically weave while socializing with their tribe members.

The rattan is both flexible and durable and has many uses in everyday life in Borneo. The beautiful patterns are made by dyeing the rattan with roots, mud and herbs to give it a dark color contrasting the light, natural rattan. Rattan is a natural and renewable palm, but this resource, along with the animals in the rainforest, are at risk due to the massive deforestation in Borneo.
